He holds a master's degree from the Department of Precision Instruments and Mechanics at Tsinghua University, where he also serves as a doctoral supervisor. He is a recipient of the Special Allowance from the State Council and has held key positions at Tsinghua University, including Director of the Science and Technology Department, Assistant to the President, and Chairman of the University Affairs Committee. As an expert in sensors, he has been awarded five National Invention and Scientific Progress Awards, along with fourteen ministerial and provincial-level scientific achievement awards. In 2010, he was honored as one of the "Top Ten Innovators in Guangdong Province." He was also recognized as an innovative, entrepreneurial, and model figure during the 40th anniversary of the establishment of the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone.
In 1996, he spearheaded the creation of China's first university-municipality jointly built research institute—the Shenzhen Tsinghua University Research Institute—and served as its director. To date, the institute has incubated over 3,000 high-tech enterprises. Professor Feng Guanping is a pioneer in the graphene industry. Now nearly 80 years old, he remains at the forefront of innovation, leading Xiwang Group in bringing graphene technology from the laboratory to households worldwide.
