Professor at the University of Hong Kong.

Lain-Jong (Lance) Li is a Chair Professor at the University of Hong Kong. He was a Research Director at TSMC from 2017 to 2020 and earned his Ph.D in condensed matter physics from the University of Oxford in 2006. He has held faculty positions at Nanyang Technological University, Academia Sinica, and King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), where he became a full professor in 2016. He also served as a part-time SHARP Professor at the University of New South Wales starting in 2017. Recognized as a Highly Cited Researcher by Clarivate and among the top 1% of scientists by USERN, he has published over 380 SCI journal articles with around 40,000 citations.


Professor Lain-Jong Li's research focuses on two-dimensional materials (such as graphene, boron nitride, transition metal dichalcogenides, etc.), which have great potential for replacing silicon-based technology in the manufacturing of low-power nanoelectronic devices. However, one of the main bottlenecks preventing these materials from seamlessly integrating with current micro/nanoelectronics is the lack of reproducible methods for achieving uniform, single-crystal thin films of these two-dimensional materials at the wafer scale. His research primarily addresses these significant challenges from both material and device perspectives to advance future electronics and continue the progression of Moore's Law.
