Abstract
Graphene has received increasing attention as rubber reinforcement in recent years. This talk reviews the research progress of the rubber/graphene composites in our lab, with emphasis on the the interface regulation, the graphene hybridization and related reinforcing mechanism, and the application of rubber/graphene composites as tire tread. Interfacial crosslinking has been demonstrated to be key factor for the performance optimization and subsequent application; Hybridization of graphene is the basic application method of graphene as rubber reinforcement. The stronger confinement of the graphene hybrid has been illustrated to be important reinforcing mechnism. The rubber composite reinforced by the ortho-quinone-modified graphene may be ideal candidate for high-performance tread. The trial tire approaching highest A-grade energy efficiency has been performed. It is the first successful attempt to fabricate graphene-based energy-saving tires in a scalable manner.
