Baorong Hou is a famous Marine corrosion and protection expert. Born in Caoxian, Shandong province in 1942, graduated from the department of chemistry, Fudan university in 1967, and obtained a doctorate in engineering from the department of engineering, Tokyo university of technology, Japan in 1994. He was elected to the Chinese academy of engineering in 2003.Currently, he is a researcher and doctoral supervisor of the institute of oceanology, Chinese academy of sciences, and director of the China-Japan joint research center on Marine corrosion environment and the national center for Marine corrosion protection engineering and technology research. He is also the executive director of China society for corrosion and protection, and President of Shandong and Qingdao society for corrosion and protection. Deputies to the ninth and tenth NPC of Shandong province, members of the standing committee and deputies to the 11th NPC. Academician Hou baorong is one of the academic leaders of Marine corrosion environment research and Marine corrosion and protection in China. Over the past 30 years, he has published 7 monographs, 6 edited articles and collections, published over 360 papers (including over 200 papers included in SCI/EI), authorized over 70 patents, and over 30 invention patents. Won the second national award for scientific and technological progress in 2002; Top science and technology award of Shandong province in 2009; In 2014, he got Liang heli award, and was also awarded the first and second prize of Shandong province for scientific and technological progress,and 12 provincial and ministerial awards such as the science and technology progress award of Chinese academy of sciences. In 2015, the Chinese academy of engineering launched a major consulting project, "research on the state of corrosion and control strategy in China", with Hou baorong as the chief scientist. At the ninth national corrosion conference in 2017, as the project leader, he published a monograph on China's corrosion cost and a series of books on China's corrosion status and control strategy, which promoted the development of China's Marine corrosion environment subject with fruitful achievements.

The main achievements of academician Hou baorong: he clearly put forward the concept of "Marine corroded environment"and established the theoretical system of Marine corroded environment; The experimental method of simulating Marine corrosion environment and the engineering technology system of controlling material corrosion in different Marine environments are established, which plays an important role in promoting the development of Marine corrosion research and protection in China. The study of anti-corrosion technology of metal covering opens up a new way of protecting Marine steel facilities in China. The basic theory of Marine corrosion environment has made remarkable achievements. The research on Marine corrosion control has achieved remarkable economic and social benefits and made important contributions to the research and protection of Marine corrosion environment in China. According to statistics, the cost of corrosion in China accounted for about 3.34 percent of the gross domestic product (GDP) in 2014, reaching 2127.82 billion yuan. Each Chinese person bears the cost of corrosion more than1,555 yuan per year. Corrosion and protection are not only economic but also security issues. And as the king of new materials, graphene with its superior performance will play an important role in the field of anticorrosive coatings.In order to promote the development of graphene anticorrosive coating industry and rapidly promote its industrialized application, China graphene industrial technology innovation strategic alliance will jointly host the"application promotion conference for graphene modified anticorrosive coating market" during the 2018 China international graphene innovation conference. Based on the outstanding contribution of academician Hou baorong in the field of Marine preservation, the organizing committee of the 2018 China international graphene innovation conference invited academician Hou baorong togive a thematic presentation at the "application promotion conference of graphene modified anticorrosive coating market", sharing his stories with graphene. Academician Hou baorong also hopes to use the platform of the conference to carry out active exchanges and cooperation with more domestic and foreign institutions and contribute to the development of graphene industry in China and even the world.
