Speaker- Zhongqun Tian

Zhongqun Tian
Xiamen University, China
Zhong-Qun Tian has been active in the International Society of Electrochemistry (ISE) since he first attended the 39th Annual Meeting (AM) of the ISE in Glasgow in 1988. He participated actively in the organization of several ISE meetings: as the co-Secretary General of the 46th AM held in Xiamen (1995), as Chair of the 2nd Spring Meeting in Xiamen (2004), and as a member of the Organizing Committees for the 4th Spring Meeting in Singapore (2006), the 60th AM in Beijing (2009), the 62nd AM in Niigata (2011) and the 66th AM in Taipei (2015). He served in the Scientific Meeting Committee of ISE (2011-2013) and the China Regional Representative to the ISE (2007-2009). He was an editor of the Journal of Electroanalytical Chemistry (2010-2012) and a member of the editorial board for Electrochimica Acta (2008-2011).
Tian has collaborated with researchers in the UK, France, USA, Japan, Germany, Canada, Russia and Italy. While serving as Chair of the Chinese Society of Electrochemistry (CSE), he established formal cooperation between the CSE and the ISE by organizing the ISE Spring Meeting, proposing the ISE Annual Meeting be held in Beijing, and especially signing the Cooperative Agreement between the CSE and the ISE in 2006.
Tian received his B.Sc. in Chemistry in 1982, then was sent by the Chinese Ministry of Education to the University of Southampton in the UK in 1983. There he worked toward a thesis entitled “In-situ Raman Spectroscopic Studies on Electrodeposition and Electrosorption” under the guidance of Professor Martin Fleischmann (FRS). After obtaining his Ph.D. in 1987, he returned to Xiamen University and has worked there ever since. He was appointed Full Professor in 1992.
His main research interests include spectro-electrochemistry, surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) and nano-electrochemistry. He published more than 330 papers in peer-reviewed journals, including Nature, Chem. Soc. Rev., Annu. Rev. Phys. Chem., Annu. Rev. Anal. Chem. and Electrochim. Acta. He has over 8,500 citations and a current annual  citation rate of 1400.
He has served as a Member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (2005-), a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (2005-) and ISE (2010-).He is a member of advisory board for more than ten international journals including JACS, Chem. Sci., Chem. Comm., Ann. Rev. Anal. Chem., Anal. Chem. and PCCP. He is an associate editor of Chem. Soc. Rev.
Personal Statement and Information
I hold the ISE in great esteem. I regard it as a very democratic, dynamic and visible society, as well as a big family. I believe that the most exciting days in basic and applied electrochemical research are yet to come, as the rapidly growing demand for clean energy (together with its impact on the environment and its potential to bring about social and economic change) is one of the biggest challenges facing the world today. I would consider the opportunity to assist the ISE meet its goals a great honor.
