In 2012, she won the China Guanghua engineering science and technology award and was selected as the distinguished professor of Yangtze river scholar by the Ministry of Education. In 2010, she was funded by the national outstanding youth fund.In 2008, she was selected as a foreign academician of the Russian Academy of engineering. In 2015, she was selected as a foreign academician of the Russian academy of sciences.

Main academic posts include: executive directo rof China society for environmental science, nuclear technology industry branch of China nuclear society, executive director and director of nuclear physics society and radiation processing industry association; In addition, she is a member of the expert evaluation group of the earth science department of the national natural science foundation of China, member of the evaluation group of environmental science and engineering discipline of Shanghai academic degree committee, and member of academic degree committee of Shanghai university. Meantime deputy editor and editorial board in JNC and JRNC and other international publications.

As the project leader, she presided over more than 20 national and provincial scientific research projects; In addition, she has published more than 200 SCI papers and obtained more than 30 national invention patents. More than 50 papers were published in the journal of the first district, including: Nature (40.137); Nature communications (IF 10.742); JACS (IF 11.444); (IF 13.455); Adv. Mater. (IF 15.409); ACS Nano (IF 12.033);ES&T (IF 5.481) et al. 9 cited papers were published in ESI, 2 of which were selected as journal cover articles. Another 3 papers were listed as Highlight by Nature Asia website.

“As the project leader, the national projects Iunder took in the past five years include”: national outstanding youth fund project, national natural science fund key project, "11th five-year plan" national science and technology support special project, and innovation team project of Ministry of Education. The relevant scientific research results have been applied well in practical application and social benefits, and have produced remarkable economic and social benefits.

Specific research areas include: professor Wu minghong mainly engaged in the application of nuclear technology, preparation and application of new nanomaterials. In particular, she expands the application theory of nuclear technology in the field of environment and materials, and creates a new nanometer material of graphene quantum dot using various technologies. A series of nanomaterials has been applied in environmental pollutant detection and biological diagnostic analysis. Recent breakthroughs have been made in the field of graphene. It’s said in the article of the journal Nature that: "Ion sieving in graphene oxide membranes via cationic control of inter layer spacing". Innovations include: accurate control of graphene membrane layer spacing is of great significance in the fields of environment and energy materials, especially in the fields of water treatment, ion/molecular separation and battery/capacitor applications. The study can be used to precisely control the gap of graphene films up to one tenth of a nanometer. This study also achieved the accurate screening of different ions through a series of hydrated ion-controlled multiple graphene composite films. The results show that the layer spacing of graphene membranes can be precisely controlled by hydrated ions, and the excellent ionic screening and seawater desalination performance can be demonstrated.

The project team proposed that the ions themselves in the solution could effectively control the layer spacing of(oxidized) graphene membranes, and conducted corresponding theoretical simulation calculations to verify it. Through the experiment, we successfully realized and observed that the graphene membrane has a special layer space after acting with different ion solutions. After realizing and observing the graphene membrane with different ionic solutions, the specific layer spacing can be as small as one nanometer, while the difference of spacing between different ions is less than one tenth nanometer. The result of the project has opened a new way for the application of go membrane in water desalination purification, lithium battery, super capacitor, molecular ion screening and filtration, and other fields. This research not only provides theoretical and technical guidance for the design and preparation for go films, but also opens up new ideas for the research of other two-dimensional materials in the field of separation films. This achievement can be regarded as a milestone achievement in this field.
