Sir Andre Geim is Regius Professor and Royal SocietyResearch Professor at University of Manchester. He has received numerous awardsand distinctions, including top prizes from the US National Academy of Sciencesand the UK Royal Society. He holds honorary doctorates and professorships frommany countries and is a member of several world-leading academies including theChinese Academy of Sciences. Most notably, Geim was awarded the 2010 NobelPrize in Physics for his groundbreaking work on graphene. More than thirty ofhis papers have been cited >1,000 times with six of them >10,000 timeswhich places two of the latter among 100 most cited research papers in humanhistory. Thomson-Reuters repeatedly named him among the world’s most activescientists and attribute to him the initiation of three new research fronts –diamagnetic levitation, gecko tape and graphene. Sir Andre was also awarded the Ig Nobel prize in 2000 for his work onlevitation, becoming the only recipient of both Nobeland Ig Nobel Prizes. He was knighted by both Dutch and British Queens.
